Many Beats...One Rhythm
Carnival in Chicago has been a long standing tradition for more than 20 years. It has served as the main celebration of Caribbean and West Indian culture in our great city. Year after year, carnival spectators and masqueraders descend onto Chicago, every 3rd Saturday in August. They dance, sing, eat, and pay homage to their beloved nations. This year, Windy City Carnival will take place Saturday, August 19th, on Midway Plaisance, located on the historic Campus of the University of Chicago.
Since our inception in 2013 Windy City Carnival has drawn thousands to the Midway for an electrifying parade of bands competition. Vendors from across the country also come to sell mouthwatering delicacies and beautiful crafts representing various Caribbean and West Indian Nations. The daylong event features the very best in Caribbean and West Indian dance, food and pageantry.
While August 19th is the main event, Windy City Carnival is a protracted affair, which spans from May to August. The 4 month season includes a myriad of media events, educational opportunities, parties, media events, and parades. As the third largest North American city, with our diverse population, and thriving music and cultural scene, Chicago will soon be one of the premier locations for Carnival revelry.
We hope you join with us as we strive to establish Chicago as the Midwest hub for Carnival celebrations!
